Corporate Social Responsibility

At Qatar Airways Cargo we have a strong commitment to giving back to the communities in which we serve. Moving towards environmental sustainability and ensuring a high level of corporate social responsibility form important foundations to our global business operations.

As one of the world's leading cargo airlines, Qatar Airways Cargo is at the forefront of industry e-initiatives such as e-freight. We are also committed to increasing our use of electronic air waybills (e-AWBs) across the globe, as part of efforts to reduce the printing of paper air waybills and reduce waste.

Qatar Airways Cargo works closely with our ground handler, Qatar Aviation Services (QAS). to achieve even more efficient air freight through initiatives such as ‘Single Process’, where customers can send electronic data directly to our hub at HIA, removing the need to provide a paper AWB with their shipment.

We are also committed to helping provide medicines to countries affected by disease epidemics and natural disasters. We also carry out regular fund-raising efforts to help charities and provide gift donations to disadvantaged children.

Tackling Illegal Wildlife Transportation

Qatar Airways has a zero tolerance policy to the illegal transportation of endangered wildlife. Wildlife trafficking is the world’s fourth-largest illegal trade, estimated to be worth $19 billion per year. The trade in endangered species of animals and plants, fuelled by demand for jewellery, ornaments and unproven medical treatments, is needless and has disatrous consequences for global conservation efforts.

International aviation can be targeted by traffickers to transport endangered wildlife unknowingly. In response to this global threat, Qatar Airways is committed to:

  • Raising awareness
  • Improving detection
  • Sharing intelligence and best practice with the industry

Qatar Airways is proud to be an inaugural signatory to the United for Wildlife Transport Industry Declaration and is a partner in the USAID Reducing Opportunities for Unlawful Transport of Endangered Species (ROUTES) Partnership.

In May 2019, Qatar Airways became the first airline to be certified under the Illegal Wildlife Trade Assessment, developed by IATA with support from The Royal Foundation and the ROUTES Partnership. This certification demonstrates Qatar Airways’ commitment to the United for Wildlife Transport Industry Declaration.

Supporting global communities

Qatar Airways Cargo is proud to support humanitarian and charitable initiatives around the world. The initiatives listed below form a small part of our ongoing corporate social responsibility initiatives around the world.

Because We Qare

The We Qare project was triggered by the crisis caused due to COVID-19 pandemic and is a series of concrete air cargo actions designed to create a positive impact on the industry and the world.

The pandemic is a tragedy for millions of people, and Qatar Airways Cargo looked for ways to help those in the greatest difficulty. We Qare is built on the four fundamental pillars of sustainability; economy, environment, society and culture.

‘1 Million Kilos’ is the first chapter of this sustainability project where charities are able to use the services of Qatar Airways Cargo until the end of December 2020 to transport humanitarian aid and medical supplies all over the world, free of charge. Watch the video.

Helping in the fight against coronavirus

In February 2020, Qatar Airways Cargo sent five freighters to China to support coronavirus relief efforts. The five flights – carrying approximately 300 tonnes of medical supplies donated by the airline – flew to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Qatar Airways has been pleased to provide free air cargo transportation for medical relief aid organised by Chinese embassies and consulates worldwide to fight the coronavirus emergency. A total of 2.5 million face masks and 500,000 bottles of hand sanitizer have been donated by Qatar Airways.

Supporting children in need

In November 2019, Qatar Airways Cargo worked with Qatari charity Box of Happiness to deliver gift packages and provide 130 children from the Wema Centre with a special tour of one of our aircraft at Mombasa International Airport.

Founded in 1993, the Wema Centre is a Mombasa-based charity that focuses on the needs of street children, orphans and other vulnerable children/youth. It provides residential care, vocational training, educational support and community outreach services.

Qatar Airways is a supporter of Box of Happiness, a youth-led initative where Qatari children gift their old toys to children in other parts of the world. Qatar Airways Cargo is delighted to deliver these gifts to children around the world.

Facilitating the conservation of the black rhino

In September 2018, Qatar Airways Cargo collaborated with leading animal transport specialist Intradco Global to safely fly Eric, a 1,157kg endangered black rhino, from San Diego Zoo in California to his new home in Tanzania.

Eric's flight to his new home in the the exclusive 350,000-acre Singita Grumeti concession area within the western Serengeti was organized by the Grumeti Fund, a non-profit wildlife conservation organization. Qatar Airways Cargo is proud to have helped in supporting the transportation of this critically endangered species to Tanzania.

In addition to the projects listed above, our staff around the world work to raise money for causes such as breast cancer awareness, as well as donating Christmas gifts for children.
